Tour 1A. Erg Chegaga Express

DAY 1. Marrakech - High High Atlas - Tazenakht- Foum Z Guid - Iriki Lake - Great Dunes of Erg Chegaga


Pick up at the hotel or riad where they are staying and start the trip to the Great South.

We will cross the High Atlas, which is the highest and most extensive mountain range in Morocco, crowned by the Tizi-N-Tichka summit at 2260 meters of altitude.

This route is also known as the Route of the Pastures. Impressive mountain landscapes and numerous Berber villages perched on the mountain.

Once crossed the High Atlas, we will deviate from the N-9 direction Foum Z Guid, passing through Tazenakht, important center of weaving of Ouzguda alfrombras, characteristic for its orange weft

We arrive at Foum Zguid, a former military post, where we will take the track, the old section of the Paris Dakar Rally, which will take us to the Great Dunes of Erg Chegaga.

We will pass by the Iriki Lake, which in several periods of the year carries water, and is bordered by sand dunes, the landscape is absolutely fantastic.

Throughout this area came numerous hawk hunting parties that once practiced the Saudis, as indicated by some adobe ruins that still exist.

After crossing several ouad, we arrive at Erg Chegaga, the sea of sand, dunes of 300 meters high and 40 km long, which will not leave the traveler impassive.

We will enjoy a spectacular sunset on the back of a dromedary among the dunes, we will taste a typical Moroccan gastronomy dinner enlivened with desert folklore.


DAY 2. Erg Chegaga - Sacred Oasis - Erg Lihoudi - M'Hamid - Ouled Driss - Tagounite - Tamegroute - Zagora - Drâa Valley - Agdz - Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - High Atlas - Marrakech


In the morning, after seeing the sunrise and breakfast between the dunes, we will start our return trip to Marrakech

We will stop at the Sacred Oasis, a succession of palm trees where a stream of water flows throughout the year and where the nomads take their flocks to water. Possibly in our journey we will find a family of nomads. We pass through different hammadas or stony deserts where we can find some fragment of meteorite or fossil.

We arrive at M'Hamid, last town of the South of Morocco before the desert, where we already take the N-9 that will take us to Marrakech.

We will make a stop in Tamegroute, ancient religious center famous for its Koranic Library and outdoor pottery workshops, where we can see the development of desert ceramics.

We will pass by Zagora considered door of the desert as well as its poster "Tombouctu 52 days.

We continue our journey through the Valley of Drâa, 200 km of palm grove that make this route one of the most beautiful in Morocco. We will pass by Ouarzazate, the African Hollywood and about 40 kms towards Marrakech we will turn off towards Ait Ben Haddou, Kasbah declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, numerous blockbusters have been recorded here: Lawrence of Arabia, The Kingdom of Heaven.


We will continue our way through the High Atlas Mountains crossing the Tichka pass (at 2260 meters altitude) - the highest pass in Morocco, with beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and valleys with a meandering road, beautiful landscapes with different Berber villages and colors on the road.
